Case Study: Business Coaching in Alderney

An interview with Mary Greensmith.

What is your current job/jobs?

I am a natural health practitioner and I teach natural health practitioners who to build online sustainable businesses, wherever they live in the world.

What do you enjoy about your current job?

I can organise my work week around my life.  I get to spend my work time talking with the people who love the things that I am passionate about and I get to walk alongside people as they go through amazing transformations in health, wealth and happiness.

What has your career path been/how did you end up in your current job?

I have always been self employed, building my own businesses before being becoming a Natural Health Practitioner.  When I qualified, I built a clinic in a small town in the UK and had 12 practitioners sharing a space and creating a wonderful healing environment. Then I decided to sell the clinic, buy a boat and sail around the Mediterranean.

With that, I then needed to learn how to work online and build a sustainable business from anywhere in the world. When it was time to move back to land, it didn’t matter where I chose – as long as I had Internet access. Coming to live in Alderney was a no brainer.  We love living here and my business is thriving.

What skills and qualifications have you obtained and found most useful?

Being self employed is about problem solving.  This is what you do each and every day.

Experimenting with your products and services online is the most important aspect of online marketing.  I have got a degree in homeopathy and several diplomas in sales and marketing, but the most important aspect for what I do is the ability to self learn and problem solve on the job.

What are your next career or education plans?

To continue learning about AI advancements in order to continue helping others on their journey to a better life.  My business is beautifully placed for where I need it to be.

When did you come to Alderney, and from where?

I moved to Alderney in January 2024; from the UK, having spent the previous seven years living on a boat.

What was your motivation to move here? Was there anything that made it difficult?

I needed somewhere quiet to live, not much traffic, somewhere close to the sea.
The cost of the move was expensive but well worth the investment.

How have you found living on Alderney; what are the highlights and challenges?

We love everything about Alderney. The biggest challenges have been the International online banking restrictions – which makes running an online International business more challenging.

Do you work remotely? If so, what do you find are the benefits and drawbacks?

I love working remotely, I love being self employed.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.
